How does the program work?
Enroll and complete your profile
Sign in to IFMA Engage using your member credentials, then enroll as a mentor or mentee during the enrollment period (4 May–5 June) and complete your program profile.
Include your goals, experience, interests and communication preferences to help ensure a strong match.
Get matched
Self-matching (4 May–5 June)
Browse and request a mentor based on your goals, experience and interests. Mentees may send up to three requests.
IFMA matching (after 5 June)
Unmatched participants are paired by IFMA based on profile alignment and availability.
Connect and grow
Program begins 6 July
Build a one-on-one mentoring relationship over nine months, starting with clear goals and a consistent meeting cadence.
Guided monthly experience
Stay engaged with monthly meetings, conversation prompts, program guides and optional Mentor Match Exchange sessions with guest speakers and peer discussion.

Frequently asked questions
Mentor Match is an exclusive IFMA member benefit designed to support professional growth through structured, one-on-one mentorship. The program connects mentors and mentees in a cohort-based experience with guided resources, monthly touchpoints and shared learning.
No. Mentor Match is a free benefit for IFMA members.
The program runs for nine months, beginning in July and concluding in March. This timeframe allows participants to build momentum, establish trust and work toward meaningful professional goals.
Enrollment is open once per year from 4 May to 30 June. You must enroll during this window to participate in the upcoming cohort.
Matching happens in two phases:
- Self-matching (May 4–June 5): Mentees can browse mentor profiles and send up to three requests.
- IFMA matching (after June 5): If no match is made, IFMA pairs participants based on goals, experience and preferences.
Each mentee is matched with one mentor to support consistency and meaningful engagement.
If there’s a clear issue, such as misalignment or lack of responsiveness, you may request one rematch within the first 45 days of the program.

Mentors and mentees should meet for at least one hour per month, either virtually or in person if mutually agreed, with additional check-ins as needed.
IFMA also hosts monthly virtual sessions featuring guest speakers and guided peer discussion. These sessions are highly recommended and are typically held on the third Wednesday of each month.
At the end of the cohort, participants complete a final survey, receive a certificate of completion and have the opportunity to share feedback or testimonials. Many mentoring relationships continue beyond the program.
